About the Artist

"Russell Ronat is a San Francisco-based contemporary artist originally from South Africa. Working across drawing, painting, large-scale fabric prints, and video, he creates immersive bodies of work that center on endangered species and the ecosystems that sustain them."

Ronat has partnered with conservation organizations around the world on awareness and fundraising, including Re:Wild, Bonobo Conservation Initiative, Rhino 911, International Rhino Foundation, Katie Adamson Conservation Initiative, Inland Ocean Coalition, and S.P.E.C.I.E.S. Lights On

Each painting in this exhibit fades in and out on a timed cycle unique to the species it portrays. The longer the darkness, the closer that species is to extinction. The lights coming on represent hope — and the funding and attention that makes hope possible.
